How it works

Words are counted by splitting on whitespace. The seven time estimates use industry standard words-per-minute rates: 220 silent reading, 170 slow, 300 fast, 130 presentation, 165 podcast, 175 TED talk, 150 audiobook. Each result is rounded to the nearest second.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text

Drop in an article, a script, a chapter or any block of writing. Word count is computed live as you paste.

  2. See the word count

Total words, total characters and reading times all update instantly. Useful for editors, students and content briefs.

  3. Read 7 time estimates

The tool reports silent reading, reading aloud, podcast listening, audiobook playback at 1x and 1.5x, speed reading and skim time.

  4. Pick the relevant one

Use silent reading for blog posts, reading aloud for speeches, podcast pace for narration scripts. Each estimate uses standard words-per-minute rates.
